”In five minutes my son saw for himself and learnt a scary but very powerful lesson”

John:
”Thinking about Scary Sunday and the attack on the demo in our square yesterday. It was all rather like a scene from a Tolkien film: the Orcs attack the Shire. One moment there small kids running around playing with their friends, dogs sniffing each others’ bottoms, local people saying hello to their neighbours. The next there was a black army of violent thugs marching in throwing smoke bombs.

But I’d like to say a big thankyou to them all for giving my 11 year old son a very useful crash course in history and politics. I could have spend hours telling him that fascists and racists were a nasty lot. In five minutes he saw for himself and learnt a scary but very powerful lesson. Racists are dangerous, violent, frightening people who, completely unprovoked, attack others because they don’t think the same way as they do. And heaven help any innocent bystanders who happen to be in their way.

There is no doubt now in his mind who the bad guys are.”
